3 Pictures and An Update

Between last week’s teaching on community health evangelism and today’s teaching on HIV/AIDS I can see once again that there is no shortage of work to do anywhere in the world. I see children in orphanages and I want to adopt them. I hear about neglected AIDS patients and I want to take care of them. I meet youth without direction and I want to encourage them. God is a faithful guide. I pray that He will continue to show me my piece in letting His kingdom come on earth. "The mind of a man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps" (Proverbs 16:9).

Our speakers for the rest of the week are Don & Barb Johnson who are missionary veterans in Niacaragua. They are teaching on microenterprise. I’m not totally sure what that is yet, but I'm confident I'll know by the end of the sessions...

Highlights for these past couple of weeks have been working with children to fix up a garden at their school and hosting a youth night here at the base last Friday. It was the second event in a 3 part series on abstinence (a very important subject considering that AIDS was the leading cause of death in people aged 15-44 in the Caribbean last year). It was really cool to interact with the youth and I even got to hold a little Haitian baby in my arms. He’s the son of a local pastor and he’s as cute as a bug’s ear.

Finally, a picture with my fabulous housemates! From left to right: Yashen, Chelsea, Cheryl, and yours truly.
Here are Carly and I, cleaning dorm rooms in all our scrubby splendor.
Carly & Em & the Caribbean Sea...no, we never get enough of that view.
